Creatine has been used as a dietary supplement for more than two decades. Creatine is a substance that is naturally found in the body. It is a compound that is involved in the production of energy in the body and is made in the liver. It is thought that approximately 95% of the body's creation ends up being stored in skeletal muscles with the rest of the substance being found in the brain, heart and testes. Every time that you perform any form of intense physical attention, the body uses creatine to provide you with energy. However, the stores only last for a maximum of around 10 seconds so you cannot train at full pelt for very long. Once the compound has been used it is converted to a waste product called creatinine and naturally disposed of by the body in the urine.
Originally, creatine was taken post-workout because it was believed that was the best time to absorb the creatine and shuttle it into the muscle. Companies started to add in carbohydrates such as dextrose to creatine to help increase insulin levels and drive creatine and water into the muscle resulting in greater pumps and muscle growth. Different forms of creatine were created such as creatine phosphate, creatine ethyl ester and dicreatine malate to try to increase the creatine effects in the body. The fact is, none of these have had the cost/benefit ratio of plain old creatine monohydrate. Creatine can be found in small amounts in red meat and fish; however most of it is destroyed through cooking. There is simply no way to get enough creatine to boost muscle growth without supplementing it.

A more recent trend is to take creatine before working out as a pre-workout drink. When creatine is combined with other nutrients such as dextrose and cinnamon extract and taken prior to working out, creatine and water are loaded into the muscle cell causing increased pumps and extra energy during the workout that result in greater muscle gains. There have been many such products introduced recently and I have tried many of them. An edgy, underground product is an up-and-comer in this category. Known as ASGT or Anadraulic State GT, this product combines several unique ingredients that I was surprised to see in a pre-workout creatine. I only tried half of the recommended dosage to be sure I could handle it and even at that dosage I saw some immediate effects. After moving up to the full dose I was pleasantly surprised at the hardcore stimulant effect coupled with full pumps and extra energy.
If you are looking to increase muscle mass and strength then creatine supplements may be beneficial for you. The results will be visible quite quickly therefore creatine is ideal for those looking to improve strength and performance in a short time period. Creatine is also effective with decreasing muscle fatigue as it reduces the amount of lactic acid in the body.
Most athletes tend to favour creatine as an alternative to anabolic steroids as it doesn't have the same negative side effects. It has not been banned by athletic associations; however the ethics of taking supplements to improve performance regularly come into question. There is no universal thought as to whether it is ethical to use supplements but some critics have expressed concern that use of performance-enhancing supplements could lead to the use of other potentially dangerous and illegal drugs and supplements.
Creatine can of course be taken by itself or with added carbohydrates either before or after a workout but my experience has led me to believe that pre-workout is the way to go and this new product, Anadraulic State GT is one of the best in the class.
